Good day all, I hope you'll find this website helpful.
There is a lot of frustration with Dmoz and the time it takes for them to review/add websites or at least reject them so people can move on or try to fix things up and try again. The whole process is horrible, and no one would care much about it if it wasn't for search engines that generate most traffic for most websites, and that includes Google giving higher value and top ranks to websites listed in the Dmoz directory.
The main reason this website came into being is the horrible attitude displayed by Editors at the Resource-zone.org. Most of them are heartless, full of themselves and act as if they own the world. Yet most are not worthy nor deserving of any respect or appreciation.
I have read many legitimate complaints about listed websites, about removing websites without a cause, about listing worthless websites, about categories full of dead links, about Editors abuse, I even seen a few requests where some website owners literally begged to be removed from the directory, for the adverse affect its causing on their websites in the Google SERPs, and the editors refuse to comply. This is supposed to be a community website/project. this project was started to serve the online community, not hinder and cause harm to it.
Any webmaster requesting that their website be removed should be taken care of right away. People are dying to get in, so if some request that they be removed then it must be very important to the owner of the site. Its a common courtesy from any website, let alone an open project run by supposetly helpful volunteers. And the list goes on and on.
Since the only place for the public to communicate with the editors is the resource-zone which is tightly controlled by monkeys from outer-space, who tend to close threads when they feel that they have insulted the poster enough and do not want others to express their views on it. I felt that if for just venting out and expressing frustration and discussing Dmoz away form the tight grip and and fear experienced by most posters at the resource-zone, this website would be worth it. maybe at the same time find better ways to market your website, better directories, etc...
Another reason was that this website may catch the eyes of the people at Google and they would see all the complaints about the directory and its abuse, maybe Google can move away form Dmoz and we can all sleep in peace.
I hope that you all post your experiences, and voice out your frustrations as I sure will.
Warm regards,
Joe
