Hello people. This is my very first post in DmozSucks.org and I'm very happy to found such a site.
I would like to share my own experience with you. A month ago I opened a thread in resource-zone forum asking Dmoz editors "what's the point?" of the black-hole policy about URL submission.
I tried to be open-minded and reasonable with whatever they may say. I tried to give'em my point of view about what seem to be perfectible. As you can read in the discussion, they gave apparent reasons. Nevertheless, what they were doing was change Dmoz definition as to avoid the appeal.

Hello Caprichoso,
I am not sure what to tell you, but the bottom line Dmoz has been pissing off webmasters since its early days, I don't have enough time nor a any desire any longer to go into all that ails this aging monster. The only people who seem to benefit from this directory are those so called "editors" who use it to boast their ego that is shattered due to their small penises. and they are full of hot air.
I have not been at their forum for years but I can tell you how they'd answer any question that you may have. They have a a few standard BULLSH!T answers that are full of crap and they recycle them for every question asks. I assure you they have NOT brought anything new to the forums for years. The only thing that was useful that the forum at one time served was a submission check. Webmasters used to be able
inquire about their submissions at the forums and "editors" used to provide some useful information, but they have stopped doing that years ago and they started wasting their time and webmaster's time telling them how they "no longer do submission checks" and how that their word is final, and how they don't owe anyone an answer to anything they do, and how that if your site depends on a Dmoz listing you probably should not be in business, and how that they can NOT tell you anything about your submission, and how that if your site was not listed you should read the published (BULLSH!T) rules and things will be better, etc... I bet you 99% of poor webmaster's inquiries get one of the standard BULLSH!T lines above.
This forum is not very popular because it seems webmasters seem to learn quickly that Dmoz is not worth the frustration and hassle any longer, and they move on to market their websites at a number of better sites specially since the advent of the social networking sites that offer more opportunities than Dmoz could ever offer.
My advice is for you to cut your losses and move on, and never look back at this ugly monstrosity.
Regards,
Joe |

I took a second to look at the thread and see what they said, I Barely scanned through the first page and almost puked. I can not believe that in the first page not only Editors but almost all those CatMod/Editall/Catmv/Meta editors jumped to "have their say" and yet they said NOTHING of substance. They are still regurgitating the same old tired lines I mentioned above. I swear that this forum have had no use in years except to boast the egos of those idiots who have no day job but waste their time hanging at a dead directory forum to feel all so important with their shiny titles that mean absolutely nothing in the real world.
I am not sure whether to laugh or cry. I honestly feel sorry for them (but just for a second) then I curse them and move on. |

Joe,
You're right about the uselessness of the forum. I was aware of it when I started the discussion a month ago. But I was willing to give it a try. May be there was a good explanation for this. Well, I tried and there is not such explanation.
That being said and combined with the fact that dmoz traffic is declining over the years, it's understandable for webmasters to think Editors keep that position to feed their ego. Or may be something more than that, as the rumours suggest.
Let's move on :) _________________ CAPRI |

I hear ya, I know of the rumors and the facts that many "editors" do actually sell listings at various online sites specialized for similar unethical things. There were stories of extortion too where sites listed were threatened that their listing would be removed if they did not pay up a lot of money. This was exposed by a famous SEO professional and the story got a lot of exposure. At any rate, I keep this forum open to give webmasters a place to vent, and also to promote alternatives to Dmoz.
They are truly not worth the hassle anymore.
