I recently posted on the DMOZ Resource Zone. Basically pointless but this is the response I received from the DMOZ administrator.

Please Read this First
Ok, so the DMOZ is not for webmasters. Business who would like to include their sites are pretty much SOL. I can understand how it would be difficult for the editors to go through tons of submissions. The part I don't understand is why google even uses DMOZ as part of their ranking algorithm I kind of get the feeling that businesses with valuable content get the shaft if an editor does not take an interest in that particular topic. I was told yesterday in no uncertain terms that DMOZ is not hear to serve the webmasters. Ok, then why does Google affiliate with you. Whenever I do any kind of searches on the internet the majority of information on DMOZ is negative. For editors to say that it is not important or going to make a difference in your business is just wrong. The fact is it does make a difference in your rating within google.
So of course webmasters are going to be all over this site trying to find out why their submissions are not being included. The whole concept is just really frustrating. For both the editors and especially legitimate businesses. Wasn't Dmoz originally started because they wanted an open arena for people of all interest to go and reference websites of interest. DMOZ was started I believe because of the shortcoming of the yahoo directory and slow submission reviews. Now those same issues are a DMOZ issue what can be done?

Essentially, that's an accurate assessment, though I wouldn't personally use the term "shafted".

You would have to ask Google.

So I think that is exactly what we should do blast Google headquarters with that very question. Call, write, complain anything to get them to cut the ties with DMOZ.

Hi ddarland1,

I can hear your frustrations and totally understand what you mean. Dmoz has been reduced to serve those few power hungry editors. No one can deny the power trip they enjoy at their infamous forums. ALL editors who post there seem to crave it. Being heartless to webmasters and site owners is actually a plus in their twisted minds. Why not, when their own websites or those of their affiliates (paid) are being listed quickly and easily, they stick around just to maintain that privilege.

If anyone would like to join this cruel cult here are the steps (follow them carefully):

* You kiss ass and try many times to be an editor, if rejected go to the forums and kiss more editor ass until they see how controllable and soulless you are, and they will let you in.
* Try to show your saintly intentions in the public forums and talk about your achievements in cleaning up your category. An achievement that might single handedly save the universe from all threats. While of course maintaining the ass kissing of the higher ranked editors.
* As much and as forcefully as you can, spit on, belittle and curse any webmaster who dares to question Dmoz and/or any of its holy editors who can never do any wrong. BE FIRM with those pests they are all the same.
* The METAs are happy with you, now you can
* Enjoy your limited but growing power trips.
* List ALL your sites and those that belong to your business affiliates.
* Enjoy your power trip (against webmasters) and remember those seemingly innocent but very powerful standard replies.
- We are not here to serve webmasters (they are right, We know what they are here for)
- We don't do site check any longer (No reason for the public forum to even exist then, but we do know why it still does)
- We will do whatever we want to do and you can't do anything about it, (DAMN it we are volunteers aren't we. )
- No one ca force an editor to edit. (Editors are GODs and no one should bother them, You hear!!!)
- Don't ask us why we rejected your website, maybe its not rejected but still in the queue, just keep coming back like the s u c k e r that you are, and keep asking and groveling at our feet. (thats what the forum is here for)
- Blah blah blahhhhhhh (WHAT?? you didn't under stand what we said?, well this shows how ignorant and unworthy you are, SLAP!!!)
* Sneak in more unworthy sites, as you remove your legit competitors
* Kiss more ass, and post more about your accomplishments
* FIGHT tooth and nail to tell everyone how fair Dmoz is, and how wrong for it to change any thing about its business practice.
* Kiss more butt... it is becoming a tasty habit for you huh?
* Build your own little editor/spider web at the resource zone and wait for the next victim (webmaster) who dares to venture in, SINK YOUR FANGS in his body, and enjoy the blood!

NOW, You are a blood certified Dmoz Editor welcome to the satanic cult.

PS. Writing to Google would not accomplish anything. Google is aware of all the webmasters frustrations with Dmoz. And they created a NoODP meta tag so webmasters can avoid having their web site's titles and descriptions controlled by Dmoz. Other than that, Google will not change their search engine algorithm no matter how many people contact them. So don't even bother.
